This past January and February, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad at Regent's University London in the United Kingdom. I can truly say without a doubt it was the best experience of my life. I grew so much as an artist and more importantly as a person. I had the opportunity to do so many amazing things, and I would love to share it with you all!
So Here's the Rundown
1/18/20: Leave Logan Airport in Boston to fly to Heathrow Airport in London. The journey begins!
1/19/20: Arrive in London and make our way to Regent's University London Campus. Here was the view from my dorm room!
1/26/20: Went to Trafalgar Square to see the Chinese New Year Parade. One of our first explorations in the city.
2/1/20: Went to the home of Twinings Tea Co. in London. Bought a bunch of tea and biscuits. We are Londoners now.
2/2/20: Saw Sierra Boggess in concert. Truly life changing, I cried so many times.
2/4/20: Saw our first show in the West End with class. It was called Touching the Void. It was okay. (Haystack was better)
2/6/20: First trip to Camden Market. One of my favorite places in the city for sure. We saw this on the way back to the train station, my dad is a die hard fan of The Who.
2/8/20: Had the most fun night at the pub with my friends. We had dinner, went to China Town for bubble waffles and gelato, and my friends ended up getting scammed out of money for heart shaped balloons.
2/10/20: Went to the V&A Museum for class. I geeked out over all the theatre stuff. So many props and costumes and history. I still get goosebumps thinking about it.
2/11/20: Saw The High Table for class. Got to meet the debut playwright Temi Wilkey and take a photo with her.
2/15/20: My friend Thom came for the weekend! We went to several museums including the Museum of London, rode the London Eye, went to the Tower of London, all your typical touristy stuff.
2/25/20: Went to the craziest, biggest department store I have ever been in. It was called Selfridges Co. It was like Macy's on steroids. Went for cookie dough, stayed for the mini FAO Schwartz and giant piano.
2/29/20: Went to the Barbican Conservatory. Plants are awesome. Also went to the Queen's House and Maritime Museum in Cutty Sark. Geeked out over a floor I saw in a video about the British Renaissance.
3/8/20: Saw the changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. Made friends with the security guard on duty.
3/9/20: Took a tour of the Globe Theatre and surrounding area with our professor from Dean. He came to visit us on his spring break, and it was so good to see him. Honestly one of the best days I had in London.
3/10/20: Saw my last show in London. It was called I think we are alone by Frantic Assembly at Stratford East.
3/13/20: The pandemic has hit hard. We found out we were going home. I was about to leave in less than a week. I cried with some therapy dogs to help.
3/16/20: Last real outing in London. Went to the zoo with my former roommate and very good friend Colleen. We saw the lions napping against the glass and a momma monkey with her very cute baby.
3/18/20: Last breakfast date with my best friend Emma before she left for home. I left the day after her. We were stuck in our dorms all week.
3/20/20: Last day in London. I flew home early in the morning. This was the last picture I took in London of the outside of Regent's.
London was honestly the best experience I have ever had. If you have even the smallest part of you that wants to study abroad, do it. I highly recommend it. Even though my time was cut short, I enjoyed every single minute I was in London. Don't get me wrong, I had my days of homesickness. But whenever I missed home, I would go out with a couple friends and explore the amazing city we got to call home. I became so much more independent and confident and I wouldn't trade those two months for anything. The moment this pandemic is over and it is safe to travel again, the first place I want to go is London.
